San Antonio doesn't have consistent nonstop service to Puerto Vallarta, but a single connection through Houston, Dallas or Monterrey gets you there the same day, and the boat tour is worth the stop. From the airport it's a short drive to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, the marina serving Punta Mita and the Riviera Nayarit, where Rayando el Sol, our Tanna 47ft luxury catamaran, waits for your group alone. Up to 16 guests can join a day trip, with a five-star crew, shaded lounges and plenty of room to spread out. Head toward the Marietas Islands, snorkel over reefs, paddleboard, try the underwater sea scooters or relax on the floating island. A private chef prepares a four-course gourmet menu, and the open bar mixes craft cocktails and mocktails all day. If you arrive in the afternoon, the 3-hour sunset cruise for up to 12 guests is the best way to start the trip. From December through March, humpback whales often visit the bay. For a city that knows how to celebrate, it's an easy way to do it on the water.
